Dan and his wife Becky have been a part of the Leavenworth community for the past 12 years. Moving to Leavenworth in 2007 they started Roots, a blueberry and flower farm, on their 4 acres located on Icicle Road. Since its inception, Roots has utilized organic and sustainable practices in growing their berries and flowers. Dan was active in the committee that started the Leavenworth Farmers’ Market and Roots has been a vendor at the market every year since its beginning.
After many years in education, Dan is now semi-retired and spending the majority of his time operating the farm. Becky continues to be employed by Cascade School District, as an elementary school counselor, while devoting her summers to partnering with Dan on farm activities and development. The Wilkinsons have five grandchildren that live in the Upper Valley, and are often found on the farm or at the Farmers Market helping sell berries and flowers. The Wilkinsons are strong believers in small scale local agriculture and the vitality that a robust farmers’ market brings to the community.
